1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL finished in Signal Red over black and equipped with a 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a floor-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission. A repaint was performed approximately 10 years ago, while more recent work included installation of a new soft top along with a fresh fuel pump and filter, rear shocks, tie rod ends, tune-up parts, and oil. A repaint in original Signal Red (568) was performed under previous ownership.
Stock steel wheels wear polished and body-colored covers and a set of Sumitomo tires. A new black fabric top was recently installed, and further images of the soft top and black Pagoda hardtop are viewable in the gallery.
The interior has been reupholstered in black with matching loop carpets. The body-colored dash houses a Becker AM/FM stereo and a period Frigiking air conditioning system.
The fuel-injected 2.8L inline-six is coupled with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. A tune-up and oil change were recently performed, and recent work included installation of a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and shift linkage bushing.
