This is not some 6 cylinder conversion. This is an original X22 SS396 car in the correct colors of Hugger Orange (code 72/72) and black houndstooth (code 713). This is an original 51,000 mile car, and still wears it's original upholstery (except for the sYc headrests of course). Other features include power steering, power disc brakes, tilt wheel, factory AM radio, deluxe seat belts, wood grain dash and console, chambered exhaust, 12 bolt-posi rear end, 3.90 gear set, and a 1969 date-coded 427 big block mated to a heavy duty 4-speed. This car has received a massive frame-up restoration down to every last nut, bolt, wire, and sticker. It is show-quality in every way.
Cosmetic Condition: The car is finished to high show-quality standards. The body is laser straight, and the paint is without flaw. Everything was disassembled, taken to bare metal, and refinished. The underside of the trunk lid, inner fender tops, behind the license bracket, door jambs, etc. were all finished the same as the top side of the car. The paint is smooth, reflective, and consistent, showing the attention to detail you'd expect on a premium muscle car. Needless to say, there is zero rust.
The glass, grille, and rear tail panel are all perfect, and the chrome and stainless trim is either new or excellent original. All of the emblems are perfect, including the Yenko-specific emblems and stickers. The wheels are new period 15" American Racing Torque Thrusts with correct Goodyear Wide Tread tires (including a brand new Wide Tread mounted to the spare in the trunk). The car has the correct two-piece Yenko stripe on the quarters, and perfect front and rear spoilers. An incredible amount of attention to detail and craftsmanship has been invested in this car, in addition to the large monetary investment.
Mechanical condition: Since everything on this car is brand new, it also runs and drives like brand new; in fact, better than brand new. The 427 V-8 has been built with a 4-bolt main steel crank, solid lift cam and lifters, forged pistons, etc. It is tuned to start quickly, and settles into an even idle quickly. Dig into the big Holley four barrel and listen to the engine come alive. The car sounds just like a big block Corvette with the chambered exhaust--it's a unique sound heard in no other muscle car. The transmission shifts tightly, smoothly, and perfectly. No notchiness, no jamming, no slippage, and no slop. The front disc brakes stop the car efficiently, with no pulsing or vibrations. The suspension is tight and responsive, and there are no undue squeaks or rattles. The quality of the mechanical build is evident in every aspect of driving the car. The only 2 things giving away the fact the car isn't right off the assembly line is 1) a much higher build quality and attention to detail, and 2) some slight surface oxidation on some bare metal chassis parts.
Interior Condition: The original houndstooth interior is in excellent condition, and is just as nice as the rest of the car. With the lone exception of the factory correct AM radio, everything in the dash works, including the clock. The console is in perfect shape (nothing cracked or broken), including the storage doors and ashtray. All of the woodgrain is perfect, the glove box is perfect (even the light works), and the visors, headliner, carpet, mats, rear deck, door panels, deluxe seatbelts, and all trim is all new or in as-new condition. Even the pads for the foot pedals are all new. All of the windows have new felts, and they've all been properly lubricated to go up and down with ease. The seatbacks are in beautiful shape as well.
