1971 Chevrolet Suburban rare factory 4X4 Manual Trans + brand new Blue Print 383 stroker engine
1971 Chevy Suburban 3-door, rare factory 4X4 Manual Trans + brand new Blue Print 383 stroker engine (425HP / 450 ft-lbs torque) + power steering / brakes and new A/C. I purchased this Suburban not because I needed it, but due to the fact I’m a sucker for these 3-door generation with rear barn doors and have owned four previous to this one. But for those familiar with this gen Burban, you’ll know the vast majority are 2WD and automatic. I’m a self-proclaimed addict to old 4WD and MT trucks, so when I stumbled upon this factory 4WD and MT example, I had to buy it. I was assured the Suburban was in perfect shape and would have no complaints.
Upon shipment arrival, the leaking power steering pump, noticeable gas smell and brakes that felt like a sponge instantly confirmed my reservations about buying from a consignment dealer. Unfortunately, it only got worse when I took it for a test drive to shift through the M465 4 speed gears. While the clutch felt strong, the transmission was loose and sloppy and every other shift into 2nd and 3rd gear produced a loud metallic “clank” that obviously wasn’t good. Thankfully the exterior, interior and engine were “as advertised” as the 383 stroker pulled hard through every clanking gear change.

To address the above issues (and a few other details I wanted upgraded / improved upon), I had the following work done at my local trusted mechanic I’ve used for years. Receipts are included with the sale to confirm the following work:
11/20/2020
1. New power steering pump / hoses
2. New front discs / pads / hoses
3. New brake fluid / bleed system
4. New front wheel bearings
5. New pitman arm
6. Removed fuel tank / replace worn feeder hose / lines
7. Install new front & second row lap belts (6 total, Classic Industries)
8. Install new door locks
9. 2” rear lift kit
New 33x12.5 BFG KO2 tires

4/1/2021
1. Rebuild M465 manual transmission
2. Replace front leaking fuel line
3. Adjust / tune carburetor
