1967 Triumph TR4A original unmolested rust free survivor Simple beauty
There is nothing like the clean classic lines of the Triumph TR4A sports cars designed by Michelotti. Simple beauty. This TR4A is one of the most original, unmolested, rust free survivors you will find anywhere. It is a two owner 1967 TR4A SOLID AXLE roadster with all matching numbers, original paint, original interior panels, running and driving. (I am the 2nd owner). Purchased new in 1967, used sparingly until 1985 when the original owner died, it has been in inside warehouse storage since then (1985) until now. (36 years). We recently rolled it out for recommissioning. The British Heritage Certificate shows that it was built 5 Septmeber, 1966, the original color is British Racing Green with a black leather interior and black convertible top. Equipped from the factory with wire wheels, overdrive transmission, Solid rear axle, heater, black tonneau cover and 165-15 Michelin X Tyres.
ENGINE:
When storing cars long term we fill the engine cylinders with a preservation compound the Air Force uses to preserve the engines in their piston engined aircraft. In readying them for return to service we drain this compound, flush the engine and refill the crankcase with fresh oil. Never any problem with seized engines, sticking rings, etc. This is the original matching numbers engine. Top notch running condition. Starts immediately. Smooth, quiet, tight, excellent oil pressure and compression (all 4 cylinders measure 185 psi plus or minus 5). At some point the engine was overhauled just prior to the original owners passing. We believe it also may have had some minor performance modifications because it is an abnormally STRONG engine and is still in like new condition. With the spark plugs removed one can see the shiny aluminum alloy piston tops with just a small amount of light carbon dust. Looks like the engine has only a few miles on it. New oil, oil filter, spark plugs, points. New period correct NOS Kinby performance air filters.
TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH:
The gearbox is the original matching numbers 4 speed overdrive unit. Works perfectly in all gears and overdrive, syncros are excellent. No noises, no glitches, no leaks of any importance. (yes, it is full of fresh oil). All smooth and quiet. Clutch works perfectly and smoothly. Brand new clutch disc, clutch pressure plate, throw out bearing, clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder and hose.
FUEL SYSTEM:
The internal surface of the original gas tank is still nice shiny unrusted steel - like new. New fuel sending unit. The original steel fuel lines and connectors from the tank to the carburetors are excellent. Original fuel pump was replaced with a NOS unit. Works perfectly. Carbs/choke were removed, disassembled, cleaned, seals/rubber replaced and adjusted and function perfectly. New period correct NOS Kinby air cleaners.
