1950 Chevrolet COE 4800 5 Window Tow Truck Wrecker RARE
This is one of the rarest tow trucks out there! Heavy-Duty 1950 Chevrolet 4800 COE original 5 window cab with a two speed rear axle and four speed manual transmission. The PTO tow body winch and two speed rear axle all work! It's truly amazing to see if you know what this is. It has spent it's entire life in Arizona and the beautiful patina shows! It is powered by a GM 235 cubic-inch inline 6 cylinder engine with a 70's ignition system for increased reliability. The engine purrs and sounds wonderful. The exhaust is routed to dual stacks behind the cab which sound deep and mean. It has the original tow body that still works in addition to the old school push bumper in the front.
We have replaced/serviced the following:
(1) new curved glass window on the rear, all new rear window rubber
New brakes all around, brake hoses, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and Hydravac all replaced
Serviced & Re-Packed Wheel Bearings
Rebuilt Carburetor & Cleaned Fuel System
New tires
New window regulators
New Radiator
New Water Pump
New Fuel Pump
Rebuilt Starter
New fluids/coolant/oil all replaced
We regularly drive the truck around town and it's truly enjoyable, even the original turn signals and running lights work. This is a beautiful truck that packs some outstanding reliability with the work we have done without changing how it looks. My dad is the person who serviced it and worked on it, it's his hobby after spending over 40 years in the automotive repair business. This helps keep him busy and he loves what he does. He doesn't believe in changing the appearance but does everything needed to make it reliable again.
