This 1973 Volkswagen Thing has the super cool look of a dune buggy with fantastic upgrades that give it the drivability of a real car. While the first Things started selling in 1972, the origin of these unique automobiles date back a few years earlier. The Thing started out in 1969 as an updated version of the "Kubelwagen" which was the German military's version of the Jeep at the time. So that Volkswagen didn't have to create an entirely new set of parts for its new vehicle, it opted to use parts from its existing product lines. The drivetrain components were borrowed from the Beetle and the suspension came from VW's Type II Transporter.
