This 1980 Auburn Boattail Speedster Replica is a beautiful recreation of the famous 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster Boattail with all the desirable modern amenities of today! The Auburn Automobile Company was founded in 1900 by brothers Frank and Morris Eckhart who were the sons of Charles Eckhart, the founder of the Eckhart Carriage Company a wagon builder at the time. By 1919, the Eckart brothers sold their fledgling automobile company to a group of investors who started turning the company around. However due to an economic recession in the following years, Auburn saw another downturn in sales. By the mid-thirties, Auburn was again struggling yet the company was able to produce its most iconic cars, the Boattail Speedster. Designed by Dusenberg's Gordon Buehrig and using parts on hand from Dusenberg, the Speedster was born. Known for its 100 mile per hour top-speed and success on the racing circuit, the Speedster did inspire an increase of sales for Auburn. Auburn was selling its Boattail Speedsters at a loss with the hope that the gorgeous vehicle would increase sales in its other higher margin vehicles.
