This one is for the true collectors. A 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 with a numbers-matching big block is already a tantalizing proposition, but have you checked out the paint? This is a highly original and very rare Carolina Blue special order coupe. It even comes with a history of long-term first-owner care. Carolina Blue is quite a mythical color. It was a special order from the factory, and so the trim tag shows a dash for the paint code. Anyone could order it, but it seems that Tar Hill country ordered them by the handful. That's why this one was sold brand new only about 30 minutes from our dealership. It stayed with the first owner all through his life. The coupe was willed to a neighbor, but he was advanced in age and couldn't take care of it. And so when a car is rare and interesting, it often finds its way to us. With a low chain of ownership and good paperwork to document the low mileage, this car represents quite an impressive survivor. The special paint color is largely original, likely aside from a rocker and the trunk lid. And the soft glow of the finish is impressive for passing the half-century mark. The trim tag does indicate this was optioned with a black vinyl roof. It looks quite nice against the bright blue paint and goes well with the grille, rear, and full-length stripe of this Super Sport. A survivor car is not about perfection, so those who love them understand that any marks help tell the full story. Still, bright chrome bumpers, proper mag SS wheels, wide exhaust tips, and doors that close with confidence are all part of a package that shows good care for decades.
