1962 Chevrolet Impala classic American hardtop Roman Red sedan
We love the look of a classic American hardtop sedan.
But what makes this 1962 Chevrolet Impala truly exceptional is that it's a long-term one-family classic where it shows originality everywhere, from the paint to the V8 under the hood. And the way this one runs means you're looking at a rolling time capsule. This pillarless hardtop sedan is a bit of a rarity. They made more hardtop coupes than these, and that's because they were more expensive than any of the comparable coupes or sedans in the lineup - especially in range-topping Impala trim. So you can understand why a car like this would be treated with extra care.
You'll see more originality with the Roman Red paint. This shows all the right signs of being the factory application. There are some chips and fading from over the decades, but that's how a survivor gets to tell this story without you ever saying a word. Plus, it retains a nice gloss that does a good job showcasing the well-respected body panels. And we especially like the full-length trim with the white insert that matches the roof for a detailed two-tone. Nice chrome bumpers, ribbed rockers, factory wheel covers, and the Impala's triple tail light pods all make for a stylish cruiser that you'll appreciate for more than just its unique history. The time capsule style continues inside. It has a vintage look with the button-top seatbacks, matching door panels, and all that bright trim on the dash. Even the AM radio is still cranking out tunes. Everything from the fabric inserts on the upholstery to the condition of the dual-spoke steering wheel supports the feeling of a low-mileage survivor. Just like the exterior, there are some matured details, but it's the kind of thing that you'll want to showcase. So it's great that you get all that open space when you roll down the side glass on this pillarless hardtop. Under the hood is quite an honest engine bay. So when the 283 cubic-inch V8 is the year-correct block and the history of this car, it's hard to believe it's anything but the original motor still in this survivor. But there was also the right maintenance along the way, including a rebuilt carburetor, newer brake lines, and a stainless fuel tank. It's what makes the difference between a car that's cool to look at and one you can show off around town. And the correct Powerglide automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and newer tires are all there to help with this easy cruiser feeling.
