1968 Chevrolet Camaro factory V8 convertible SS RS clone
This 1968 Camaro SS/RS clone began life as a factory V8 convertible. The modifications start off with metalwork. We installed new quarter panels, Detroit Speed mini tub kit, subframe connectors, and rear shock bar. The subframe was powder coated gloss black and the underside of the car was Raptor lined. Tubular control arms are installed in the front with large six-piston Wilwood brakes, double-adjustable coilovers, and a CPP quick ratio power steering gearbox. The rear has a shortened 12 bolt rear axle with matching large four-piston brakes and an emergency brake option, all installed and functioning correctly. The paint has been laid using a PPG base and clear. A beautiful dark metallic blue with a bright silver SS stripe. Polished Ring Brothers exterior door handles and mirrors complement the perfect blend of colors that not only match the exterior paint, but also the wheels, brake calipers, and interior. The wheels are a custom three-piece that was designed by us and produced by a local vendor with our measurements. The rear rim is 13in wide with a 6in polished offset wrapped in a 285/30/20R tire. The front is a 10in rim with a 2.5 offset wrapped in a 235/35/20R. The tires do not rub by any means, and the wheels have been color-matched to the body color with polished 12-point hardware.TMI interior door panels and front bucket seats are wrapped in a slightly lighter exterior tone color that compliments the powered blue convertible top, chrome infrastructure, and blue suede headliner. The rear seat follows custom upholstery that matches the front and combines the polished Billet Specialties steering wheel wrapped in the same blue leather as the seats. Polished electric Autometer gauges in an aftermarket color-matched bezel have been installed, as well as a factory style horseshoe floor shifter with the factory console. The aftermarket original appearance radio with Bluetooth, Sirius XM, and standard radio stations housed next to the Vintage Air control panel ties the dashboard together. Power windows are supplied from Nu-Relics with factory appearance chrome switches for front and rear power window operations. The motor is a true LSX block bored out to a 440ci and comes equipped with a fully forged rotating assembly. Callies dragonslayer crank, Callies Compstar rods with ARP 2000 bolts, custom spec Wiesco pistons, six-bolt Trick Flow cylinder heads spec’d to 355 intake/275 exhaust have been combined with a custom grind “boost” camshaft. Holding the motor together is a slew of ARP hardware and Cometic gaskets. Helping it breathe are Hooker long tube silver ceramic coated headers, 3in stainless steel exhaust, and stainless steel performance Magnaflow mufflers.
