1940 Ford 2 door Street Rod Hot Rod all steel 350 Chevy engine
1940 Ford 2-door
sedan street rod powered by a 350 c.i. Chevrolet and backed by a Turbo 350
3-speed automatic transmission. The Ford is all steel and had a frame-off build
completed in ’09. Since then it has logged about 50,000 miles (averaging
3,500/year).
The chassis uses the stock 1940 Ford frame with a
‘90’s Camaro front end which uses tubular ‘A’ arms and coil over shocks. The
rear differential is a 10-bolt Chevrolet with 3:05:1 open gears and leaf
springs. It also has power brakes (discs front & drums rear) and power
steering. This combination gives the ’40 a nice ‘rake’ to the front, great
handling, and a smooth ride. Front tires are Firestone 195x65Rx15 and the rear
are B.F. Goodrich 235x70Rx15s.
The 350 Chevy engine and Turbo 350 transmission were new
when the car was completed and perform great without any problems or issues.
The engine sports a mild hydraulic cam, Edelbrock intake and carburetor, a
Pertronics ignition, dual exhaust, aluminum radiator, custom shroud, and
stainless steel 16-gallon gas tank.
The paint is a 2-stage urethane Ford “Coral” which is
similar to a color often used back in the mid-1950’s. Body appears straight,
chrome is good, windows go up and down easily and are tinted (rear are etched), lights, turn
signals, wipers, and cowl vent all work. The only area which is showing age is
behind the rear bumper (see photo).
