1971 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 1 of 353 Cyclone Spoiler 429CJ V8
Rare & Fully Restored, 1 of 353 Cyclone Spoiler 429CJ V8 4-speed Ram Air
Are you a diehard Ford fan who's looking for some rock-solid muscle that's stylish, powerful and roomy enough to take your other-minded friends on enlightening journeys? Then this slick Merc is just the car you need! One of just 353 Cyclone Spoilers produced for the 1971 model year, this fully documented, correctly restored classic is also one of just THREE 1971 Cyclone Spoilers that wraps storied 429 power in vivid Competition Yellow paint and bright White upholstery. Sold new at McAllen, Texas' Glasco Motor Company, this pedigreed coupe is the beneficiary of a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration that consisted of mostly NOS and restored original parts. And, as you might imagine, that methodical rebuild left no detail unattended in the quest for absolute authenticity. For 1971, the top-option 429 Cobra Jet-powered Spoiler featured the same 'advertised', meaning grossly underrated, 370 horsepower and 450 lb./ft. of torque as its 1970 predecessor. The muscular Ram Air mill twists a close-ratio Toploader 4-speed, which spins a familiar 9-inch axle that's finished with a correct Traction-Lok differential and correct 3.50 gears. A rebuilt Competition Suspension mixes correct, optional power steering with correct power front disc and rear drum brakes. And power meets the pavement through chromed Magnum 500s, which lap meaty G70-14 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports. Officially called White Knit Vinyl, this Cyclone's buckets and bench ride a sea of clean carpet that's split by a stylish console and a requisite Hurst T-handle shifter. Front and center, a warp-free dash hangs Spoiler-spec telemetry between a correct AM/FM radio and bright side panels. And the driver holds the road through a detailed Rim Blow Steering Wheel.
