1965 Ford Mustang Coupe first generation Mustang original Springtime Yellow
1965 Ford Mustang
The first generation Mustang was manufactured from 1964-1/2 until 1973. This 1965 coupe was one of the original Mustangs and it has a story to tell. The odometer reads just under 9,600 miles and the current owner (25+ years) states that he believes that is actual mileage. The Mustang has been here in the AutoBarn storage for a period of time, but it did not spend all of its life inside. Simply stated, this Mustang coupe is correct and complete, but in need of some TLC. The solid body shows no rust and does not appear to have ever been damaged. The original Springtime Yellow alkyd enamel finish is tired, but it has done a great job protecting the Mustang's metal. It would not be a huge endeavor to prep this body for a respray. The chrome and stainless are in good condition and a set of period correct Mustang 'Magnum 500' wheels w/redline radials have been installed (original wheels and hubcaps are included). The interior is the most amazing part of this Mustang experience. It looks very much like it did on the showroom floor in 1965 - seats, dash, door cards, headliner all look great. The steering wheel and pedals show virtually no wear and the AM radio works - sometimes. This Mustang coupe was a 'C-code' car from the factory – 289/2V 'Windsor'. This engine compartment looks totally original in every detail, but is a little rough. The '65 Windsor 'C-code' had 9.3:1 compression and was factory rated at 200bhp and 282lb/ft. The motor runs, albeit somewhat rough. The top end and bottom end are both quiet, but the carb is struggling and one of the belt-driven pumps is noisy. Overall, it seems to be a sound motor just in need of some attention. Power to the ground is delivered via a 3-speed 'Cruise-O-Matic' automatic transmission and the chassis is equipped with power steering and manual drum brakes.
