1962 Oldsmobile Starfire REBUILT 394 4BL AUTOMATIC TRANS
THIS 1962 OLDS STARFIRE WAS BUILT IN THE LINDEN NEW JERSY PLANT ON THE SECOND WEEK OF OCTOBER 1961. I BOUGHT IT FROM THE THIRD OWNER ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND OF 2021. WHEN IT ARRIVED, IT WAS AN EXCELLENT RUNNING CAR WITH A REBUILT 394 – 4BL WITH ARE BUILT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WITH 109337 ORIGINAL MILES; NOW AT 110724mi (1387 miles) SINCE THE WORK HAS BEEN DONE. IT HAS ALL THE POSSIBLE POWER OPTIONS FOR THE1962 STARFIRE.AS I HAD DONE PREVIOUSLY WITH all of my cars bought,MY LAST CAR (1964 BUICK RIVERA) I STARTED ON THE LONG, HARD AND COMPLICATED JOB OF REPAIRING, REPLACING AND UPGRADING EVERYTHING (“RESTO ROD”). SUITABLE FOR A POWER TOUR RUN.I BEGAN BY:REPLACING ALL OF THE HOSES AND BELTS FOR THE ENGINE.I THEN REPLACED ALL OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS, MASTER CYLINDER, BOOSTER, DRUMS, WHEEL CYLINDERS, HOSES, SHOES AND EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES.I FLUSHED THE RADIATOR, AND REPLACED THERMOSTAT.I RE-PACED THE STOCK GENERATOR WITH A POWER MASTER UPGRADED ALTERNATOR.I REPLACED THE STOCK STARTER WITH A CUSTOM HI-TORQUE MODEL. IN ORDER TO REPLACE (GET AT IT !) THE STARTER, I HAD TO REMOVE THE DRIVER SIDE ENGINE PIPE, I THEN INSTALLED A NEW HEAT RISER AND ENGINE PIPE.THECAR IS AN ORIGINAL A/C CAR, BUT AS USUAL WITH OLDER UNITS, IT DID NOT WORK. BECAUSETHERE IS NO STOCK AFTERMARKET VINTAGE AIR - AC KIT FOR A 62 OLDS STARFIRE, IINSTALLED A VINTAGE AIR GEN IV SYSTEM ADAPTED FROM A GTO PACKAGE AND CUSTOM INSTALLEDTHE CONTROLS IN THE CENTER CONSOLE AND UTILIZED THE ORIGINAL DASH VENTS.I REPLACED THE STOCK CLOCK WITH A QUARTZ CONVERSION.REPLACED THE DASH GAS GAUGE AND ALL LIGHT BULBS4 NEW SEAT BELTSI INSTALLED A REMOTE DOOR LOCK SYSTEM WITH POWER TRUNK RELEASE.I RE-WIRED THE HORNS.I REWIRED THE STEERING COLUMN WIRING.I REPLACED THE HEAD LIGHT SWITCH.I UPGRADE ALL THE WHEELS AND TIRES WITH 15 “(FROM THE ORIGINAL 14”) TO P235-75-R15.MADE CUSTOM 15” OLDS VINTAGE TRI-BAR WIRE WHEEL HUBCAPS.I REMOVED THE REAR RESONATORS AND REPLACED WITH STRAIGHT PIPES.I TOOK APART ALL THE POWER WINDOW MECHANISMS TO MAKE THEM WORK SMOOTH. WHILE THE DOOR PANELS WERE OUT DOING THE WINDOWS, I INSTALLED THE CUSTOM REMOTE DOOR AND TRUNK LOCK KIT WITH 2 REMOTES.AS YOU CAN SEE BY MY NARRATIVE AND LIST OF PARTS, IT WAS VERY INVOLVED AND VERY EXPENSIVE - NOT TO MENTION THE HUNDREDS OF MAN HOURS SPENT. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND AND APPRECIATE THE COSTS SPENT IN THIS BUILD AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD TO START THE REPAIRS AND UPGRADES I HAVE DONE.
