1960 MG MGA 1600 Black Convertible
This 1960 MGA 1600 is a 2016 restoration finished in black over tan with a tan top and tan tonneau cover. The current owner’s file of receipts and photos shows that it was subject to a body off restoration in Old English white and mechanical rebuild in 1978 in Colorado with 7766 miles on the odometer and was sold by that restorer by a bill of sale (also in the file) to a gentleman in Georgia in 1998. That owner held on to the car for 17 years , in 2012 and sold it to the current owner, a British car enthusiast, in 2015 with an odometer reading of 17,395 miles (mileage prior to 1978 cannot be confirmed). It was then subject to a complete disassembly, restoration and color change to a single stage polyurethane black.
In addition to the color change, cut and polished to a very high standard, the engine was removed and verified to be in strong running order and reflective of a rebuild with approximately 10,000 miles of use since the professional rebuild in 1978, except for worn rocker arm bushings. A new rocker arm and bushings were installed. The transmission was professionally examined, partially disassembled and re-sealed. During reassembly, this MGA received a new clutch pressure plate, wiring harness, gas tank sealing, carb rebuilding, powder coated intake and exhaust manifolds, a new radiator and flamethrower distributor and was set up for a single 12 volt battery. Additionally, the gauges were professionally rebuilt, brakes re-done, a new electronic fuel pump, new horns, new steering wheel, new tri-pod headlamps, a stainless exhaust, a new windshield, all new rubber and new splash guards were installed and the engine and transmission mounts were replaced.
Chrome is in very good shape. The bumpers and over-riders were replaced in 2001 and the interior and exterior mirrors and front grille were replaced during the recent restoration.
The tan interior and black carpets (replaced in 2001) were removed during the restoration and reinstalled after the latest restoration. The Premium Stayfast tan top fits nicely on a repainted and well fitting frame and a new Stayfast short tonneau cover was installed by the current owner. New lap belts and MG logo floor mats were also added and the original side curtains were refurbished with new rubber (although the original plastic sliding windows show some scratches and hazing).
The 5 wire wheels were sandblasted, painted and clear coated and 5 new Toyo 330 tires were recently mounted with new MG logo eared knock off wheel nuts.
The car has been driven about 1500 miles over the last two summers and is a strong, dependable, fun runner in beautiful condition constantly drawing rave reviews. Receipts and photo from the 1978 body off restoration, maintenance receipts since, receipts from the 2016 restoration, and vintage advertising materials are included.
