1961 Lincoln Continental Platinum Sedan 430ci V8 Automatic
This beautiful 1961 Lincoln Continental Sedan is an exceptional example of what is arguably Lincoln’s most beloved automobile. Built during the first year of fourth generation production, this car has been lovingly cared for since new and has recently been the recipient of a thorough refreshing to bring it up to as-new condition. Integrating some subtle modifications during the restoration ensures that this Continental will be a reliable driver with all the modern conveniences you could want while retaining the stock look that made these cars so famous when they were new. When you approach this Continental, the first thing that strikes you is the beautiful platinum paint which shows the lines of the car perfectly and accents the flawless chrome bumpers and grille. The wheels, which look like they could be stock, are actually 15” aluminum pieces from a later Lincoln-a desirable update over the steel wheels and hubcaps that originally came on the car. Under the hood, this Lincoln features a new 430ci V8 with an upgraded four barrel carburetor, stainless steel exhaust and factory correct aluminum valve covers. The engine runs like a top and when you open the hood, it looks like it just came out of the Lincoln factory in Wixom, MI. The braking system has also been upgraded with a dual master cylinder to give the car a more solid pedal feel and help slow the big Lincoln down. As with any proper luxury car, this Continental has power everything on the inside and an ice cold air conditioning system to keep you cool all summer long. The interior has been completely reupholstered in Genuine Leather and looks simply perfect and a new set of carpets rounds out the factory fresh interior. One subtle but noteworthy upgrade is a radio that looks completely original but has been upgraded on the inside with AM/FM and Bluetooth capabilities so you can enjoy music from your phone while out on a drive. In addition to all of these great features, an owners manual and set of brochures is included with the car to provide some interesting reading and great display pieces at any show. When Lincoln produced the first generation of Continental in 1939, they had one goal in mind- build a car to rival the most luxurious vehicles from Europe but build it in America and for a reasonable price. Although it was a moonshot for the company, they succeeded and in the process, created a new automotive segment the “personal luxury car” which ended up being copied by manufacturers the world over for decades to come.
