1963 Studebaker Avanti R2 Supercharged automatic
1963 Studebaker Avanti. It is equipped with the supercharged R2 engine, Powershift automatic transmission, power steering and power windows. The car was restored by the previous owner in the late 1980s.
The car was originally turquoise with turquoise interior, but was refinished in black with non-factory fawn/red interior. Mileage shown is 3684 but actual mileage is unknown. Car is fitted with aftermarket Borrani knock-off wire wheels and Michelin radials of unknown age. The car runs, drives and stops but should not be considered roadworthy.
Exterior: The Avanti's paint is in good to very good condition, but does have some blemishes. There are two starbursts on the hood and some minor abrasions near the gas filler. There are some paint imperfections visible on the driver side front fender crown and on the passenger side fender crown and trailing edge. Brightwork is in good shape, although the rear bumper does show some rippling likely caused in the replating process. Passenger side "A" pillar trim shows a minor ding.
Interior: The interior is in very good to excellent condition. Carpet shows minor wear and tear. Driver's side door lock lever is off, but in complete with trim piece. Light socket hanging below dash is for turn signal indicator. Power windows operate, but driver's side operates slowly compared to passenger side.
Mechanical: Car was received after having sat for an extended period of time. Bad fuel was removed and a new fuel filter installed. Supercharger was checked for oil before starting. Supercharger has tag noting it was rebuilt by Erb Products of Carson City, Nevada. Car runs, drives and stops, but should not be considered roadworthy. Engine shows good oil pressure. Has exhaust leak at driver's side manifold to exhaust pipe flange. Ignition was upgraded to Pertronix by previous owner. Power steering has significant leak from control valve area - leaks when sitting, and leaves trail of power steering fluid when running. Supercharger-to-carburetor duct hose is deteriorated - new hose included with sale. Car has custom exhaust with two mufflers per side.
Structural: Undercarriage appears sound and rust free. Frame is solid and hog troughs appear free of corrosion
