1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 non stock Chevrolet 292 engine
This FJ40 has a non stock Chevrolet 292 engine which was installed in 1982, the stock transmission is present. It doesn't leak any oil onto the floor and the transmission is just as tight. It runs and drives, although it does blow some blue smoke, see the video for a walk around. It does seem to have a slight exhaust leak at the manifold. The single barrel carburetor could use a tune up before serious driving. Occasionally when starting the starter will hit a bad spot on the flywheel. Recent service includes new spark plugs, wires, cap, oil change and air filter. The engine idles nicely at 900 rpms after warm, the clutch engages smoothly and it shifts without issue. The brakes could use some tuning, it does stop but the pedal is near the bottom.
All front doors lock, the stock ignition key now has a push button starter, the rear door locks as it should.
The interior has had the seats recovered around the same time as the paint job, the headliner is missing and the top dash has been recovered with vinyl. The stock rear seats are in great shape along with the rear roll bar, which isn't bolted down yet.
Horn works, front lights work, tail lights work along with the blinkers, windshield wipers work as they should. The speedometer in the the stock gauge cluster is not metering mph. The alternator is charging as it should.
It was painted in 1995, it's shines well and looks amazing, there are zero signs of rust, blisters, dents or dings, the body is straight as an arrow. There are only a few little scratches and paint chips on this FJ. All the stock body seems are present and the door gaps are great, doors shut and close tight with ease, please see the video. The undercarriage does show some dirt and grime but looks really solid without any corrosion issues.
