This 1963 Studebaker Avanti is a beautifully designed, Raymond Loewy masterpiece that comes with tons of historical and original paperwork. The Avanti was Studebaker's first (and unfortunately final) entry into the luxury sports car market. It was European styling that inspired famed Studebaker designer Raymond Loewy to design the Avanti with its signature body lines, elevated interior look, and unique exterior appearance. The Avanti was advertised using the tagline "Avanti is Elegance" which is apparent to anyone who sits in an Avanti. One of the most unique design features of the Avanti is its fiberglass body making it only the second fiberglass-bodied American car after the Corvette, with which it was designed to compete with.
Under the hood on this Studebaker is an Avanti R-1 289 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that together pushed out 240 horsepower when new. The 289 V8 is hooked up to a recently rebuilt Borg-Warner AS2-10 "Powershift" Automatic Transmission ensuring that just about anybody can take this classic car for a spin. Being that the Avanti was considered a luxury automobile back in 1963, many of them came loaded with options. With Power Steering, taking this Studebaker for a cruise is much more enjoyable and makes getting in and out of tight spaces much easier. Power Front Disc Brakes provide plenty of stopping power for all of that horsepower under the hood, and they were a new innovation for American car manufacturers of the day.
