1953 Ford Crestline Pace Car 43489 Miles White Sungate Ivory Convertible
In 1953, Ford celebrated its 50th anniversary and was selected as the manufacturer to provide the pace car for the Indianapolis 500. To commemorate the moment, Ford reportedly had 2,000 (or 2,001, the number is unconfirmed) Crestline Sunliner replicas built to sell to the public, making it the first mass produced pace car edition vehicle. This car is one of the few survivors still around, and still wears its correct data plate showing the SS color options for the exterior paint and interior. White Sungate Ivory paint covers the exterior, with bright shining chrome all around and the Coronado Continental Trunk Kit on the back end. Crossed checkered flags on the fenders and the vinyl decals complete the Pace Car special look. This particular car was repainted back in the mid to late 1990’s, and was painted using the same color codes it originally came with. Under the hood sits the 239ci Flathead V8 engine, rated for 110 hp, and mated to the Ford-O-Matic transmission. The car still retains the 6 volt electrical system to keep it as close to original as possible. Inside, the color-correct white and gold leatherette interior looks and feels very nice. The matching gold dash, black carpet, and white power convertible top all show very nicely as well. Believed to be a 3 owner car with 43,489 original miles, this car would make a great addition to a collection, or a nice cruiser.
