This car has just been finished, and shows really well. I picked the car up as a basket case project that had bodywork started, a convertible top, most convertible parts sold during build, and had been sitting for a few years. Things happen when a car goes in for paint, car don't always end up getting done when parts are sold off, and this is one of the lucky ones that went back together with the help of my parts inventory. I have been building old Vdubs for a bit and had enough parts laying around to build the car back. The paint is a Mopar color, Crystal Granite Pearl (PAU), base-coat/clear-coat, out of the Sherwin Williams 7000 Ultra line. The car has a complete rubber kit, new stainless trim, running boards, upgraded canvas top, side mirrors, German VW hood emblem, jack plugs, and early bumper blades. There was an impact to the front of the car at some point, and does show signs of repair if you look closely. The car has been detailed from top to bottom and show well from any angle. The interior was left pretty much stock with an earlier feel to it. The dash pad has been removed as have the fresh air ducts giving it more of a 1967 look. The carpet, floor insulation, door panels, glove box, steering wheel, signal, and ignition are new. The speedometer was taken apart and cleaned, and the car has a completely new wiring harness. Yes! Everything works, even the horn, wipers, and dome light! The trunk has a reproduction truck liner, all new filler line and breather hoses (with clamps), and a Empi wiring cover. The jack was taken apart, blasted, painted, and re-assembled. Matching, PAU painted spare, with 135r15 in case you get a flat. The engine is a 1600cc single-port engine that was rebuild a few years back. It runs great, has had a new flywheel, clutch pack, trough-out, exhaust, carburetor rebuild, 30/31 Pict, 009 distributor, Bosch Point, Bosch condenser, Bosch Cap, Bosch wires, Bosch blue coil, new Contitech belt, tin paint, engine bay seals, tar board insulation, and OEM stickers. This engine bay looks like it was on a showroom floor! This is the easy place to spot a car that hasn't been taken apart for paint. The shroud was converted to a new 36hp unit for an earlier appearance. The transmission is a rebuilt 1967 unit that had the axles swapped, new seals, boots, and all mounts. The car is running a 4” narrowed front beam without shocks, new shocks on the rear, and rides pretty nice. It sits low, but isn’t a stiff or bouncy ride. The brakes are all new, bearings, seals, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, rubber hoses, and master cylinder. New Porsche replica 2.0l, 914, wheels with Wolfsburg center caps. There are a few original pieces on the car, but most everything has been gone over, cleaned, detailed, or replaced. This is a fresh build and not a car that was built 15 to 20 years ago. Why spend $16-20k only to spend more to rebuild an older build and wait for it to be be done.
