This 1980 Auburn Boattail Speedster Replica is a beautiful recreation of the famous 1936 Auburn 852 Speedster Boattail with all the desirable modern amenities of today! The Auburn Automobile Company was founded in 1900 by brothers Frank and Morris Eckhart who were the sons of Charles Eckhart, the founder of the Eckhart Carriage Company a wagon builder at the time. By 1919, the Eckart brothers sold their fledgling automobile company to a group of investors who started turning the company around. However due to an economic recession in the following years, Auburn saw another downturn in sales. By the mid-thirties, Auburn was again struggling yet the company was able to produce its most iconic cars, the Boattail Speedster. Designed by Dusenberg's Gordon Buehrig and using parts on hand from Dusenberg, the Speedster was born. Known for its 100 mile per hour top-speed and success on the racing circuit, the Speedster did inspire an increase of sales for Auburn. Auburn was selling its Boattail Speedsters at a loss with the hope that the gorgeous vehicle would increase sales in its other higher margin vehicles. While Auburn did sell more cars due to the Speedster, it was not enough to save the independent American auto maker and by 1937 it was out of business. Due to the fantastic look and high desirability of the Speedster Boattails, a number of replica builders cropped up pairing the timeless design of the iconic Auburn with modern options and creature comforts. This particular Auburn Replica was built by builder Speedster Motorcars and comes to us from a large classic car collection. Under the hood on this Auburn is a 350 Cubic Inch V8 engine with a single 4 barrel carburetor that provides much more power than the original Lycoming Straight 8. Anybody can drive this Speedster Replica since the 350 V8 is backed up to a TH350 Automatic Transmission. Being that this car was built to provide an enjoyable driving experience, it is loaded with options! With power front disc brakes and drums in the rear, this Boattail has plenty of stopping power for all that horsepower under the hood. Getting in and out of tight parking spaces is simplified with the addition of power steering.
